As I write, every market index is down. Again. Jitters about China’s contracting economy and near collapse of its currency have spread all over the world. A catastrophe was narrowly averted by their central bank’s intervention and emergency market stops. The commodity collapse continues to wreak havoc on economies throughout the emerging world and has badly hurt North America, and, especially, Canada. Continue reading →

I am watching as a group of teens leaps into the cold water of the Indian River in front of me. They begin swimming furiously toward a bobbing object in the water about 75 yards away. When they converge on it, mayhem ensues for a second until the victor is triumphant, and a fourteen year-old boy is excitedly waving a white cross over his head. Continue reading →
