Ah, Vienna!

 

I had forgotten how much I love this city. I am walking down the Kartner Strasse, Vienna’s grand pedestrian boulevard linking the Opera House to its piece de resistance, the mighty St Stephen’s Cathedral, a 12th century architectural tour de force.  I have just purchased three pieces of exquisitely hand-crafted chocolate and plan to eat them upon my return to the 18th century Hotel Stephanie where I am staying.  Music!  Music of all kinds fills the air, and mixes with the laughter and language of ten thousand souls.  I am glad I’m back. Hiking Northern Spain-The Way of Saint James: Santiago

Well, I made it.  I am in the great 12th century Cathedral in Santiago, and I must admit, he end of the journey is somewhat of an anti-climax.  Yes, I have fallen to my knees in prayer.  After all, I have walked a long way to be here.  But I think as in most things the important part is the journey itself, which is just a preparation for the destination, after all. I feel like I am running to keep up with Gail, who I’ve been with almost all morning.  It is, once again, raining and/or cloudy, but my knee feels great.  I have been told that I can take lots more Ibuprofen than I had been doing, and it seems to work.
