Paradise Lost

Let me tell you a tale of a nice little neighborhood that is centrally located near major road arteries, jobs, and shopping. It stands on the edge of a beautiful wetland near the east coast of Florida. It has nice, neat rows of homes with manicured lawns and gardens centered around a small pond and a community swimming pool/clubhouse. You access the community through a gate because the residents want to keep the undesirables out of their fine community, which they specifically selected because it was in an “A” rated school district. In fact, the kids can actually walk safely to those excellent schools right from their front door. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Continue reading

2016 Stock Picks

People often ask me, “What do you do?” I used to flippantly tell them I enjoy travel, family, friends, wine, reading, theater, the beach, etc. but I always knew that they mean, what do you do for a living? When I tell them I’m retired, they inevitably say, “You’re very young for that.” The truth is I’m about the only non-governmental worker you’ll ever meet who retired at 50, but the reality is that I’m not really retired at all. Hope and Change, 2016

2015: It’s all over but the crying now, and it wasn’t a good year at all. It brought us more unemployment, more war, more illegal immigration, more terrorism, and less beauty and sanity than any year I can remember since Tricky Dick darkened the doorway to the White House and double-knit leisure suits were worn in the discos of Funkytowns across our great, but yet, somehow…tasteless nation.
